Jean & Odette,
They say that the most common way of meeting a new partner is through mutual friends, and it was at a birthday gathering of a friend that Jean and Odette first met. For Jean it was love at first sight. For Odette it was a wrestling match between head and heart and in her own words her thoughts were “panic, unsure, excited, I want him, I don’t want him, kiss me, don’t kiss me, sold…to the man with the beard!” Their Great Brak beach wedding was a loving progression from instant attraction.
The couple’s relationship
Jean jokes that he knew Odette was the “the one” when he discovered they both shared a love of tequila! In reality it was her honesty about life and love, and her sense of humour that made him realise that he couldn’t imagine a life without her. Odette says “Jean has a certain quality that makes every moment seem special, particularly with me, but also with everyone we know”, and like Jean, it didn’t take her long to realise there was no one else in the world for her.
The proposal came at the top of Naude’s pass, along with the blessing of the rain, when Jean-Henri gave Odette a belated birthday present, a coffee table book of “10 things I like about you” and after the 10 things he liked, it all came down to one question…
Jean & Odette’s exquisite Garden Route Wedding Day
After a beautiful beach ceremony, where Jean had “an explosion of emotions” after seeing Odette walking towards him in her gorgeous wedding dress, Jean and Odette celebrated with a festive night of seafood platters, champagne and dancing the night away with family and friends.
Despite a very special proposal in the Drakensberg Mountains, the couple knew from the beginning that they wanted a beach themed wedding, and De Vette Mossel was the only venue they had in mind. The rustic feel was exactly what they wanted and provided a perfect setting. Unfortunately a heavy storm flooded some parts of the venue the night before, but the amazing staff rallied around and made numerous emergency plans to ensure that Jean and Odette’s day was not affected. The décor perfectly reflected a simple unassuming rustic vintage feel with no dominant colour scheme or flower arrangements, but rather choosing string lights and simple bunches of lavender, a favourite flower of Odette’s grandmother who couldn’t be with them. This provided a wonderful setting to capture the down-to-earth nature of this great couple in their wedding photos.
Jean and Odette were such fun to photograph which shows beautifully in their photos. The ultimate compliment I could receive was that their friends and family are left “speechless” when they look through the album of their Garden Route Wedding. Asked if I could have done anything differently, the simple answer was “Nope”! They flet that my photos had captured all those perfect moments throughout the day; and this from a couple who really had fun in front of my camera.
