John and Jessica travelled all the way from the USA for their Victoria Wedding on Mahe, the biggest of the Seychelles islands. The couple quickly adapted to what the locals call ‘island time’, embracing the spirit of the tropical island group.
Victoria is the capital of Seychelles and is a hype of activity with traditional sea food restaurants, the busy harbour and the international airport. Thousands of tourists travel here for holidays every year and the whole island is covered with holiday accommodations, from luxury hotel groups to affordable Air B&B units. The weather is always unpredictable, and I have shot a wedding on Mahe island with a cyclone in the region. Luckily for us, Johan and Jessica’s Victoria wedding had wonderful hot weather all day long.
A lot of things went wrong on their wedding day, but the couple stayed relaxed and enjoyed the experience. Their day started with a helicopter ride around Mahe island. This was a first for me and I really enjoyed looking at all the different spots that I have shot weddings at before. Their beach ceremony was held in the scorching heat at mid-day (!) because of the low tide. Afterwards, they retired to eat some yummy wedding cake and to refresh. We waited for the heat to cool down a bit before we headed out for their couple portraits.
We started the photo shoot towards the afternoon and continued into the night using the interesting light and architecture features of the luxury Resident Blue hotel. The next morning, we continued shooting, this time on their private beach. The Seychelles is always a great backdrop for wedding photography with so many diverse opportunities.
