Let me start of by saying that I absolutely love the Namib Desert. It is one of my favourite places in the whole world! So when Phillip’s enquiry came through and I actually had the possibility to shoot in this stunning location, well naturally I jumped at the opportunity!
Being creative artists themselves, Phillip and Kirsten were looking for a photographer that will not only capture their moments and memories, but who will also make use of the stunning landscapes for creative art. The travelling to Deadvlei was strenuous with long hours of flying, driving and then some more driving. I arrived at Deadvlei the night before their wedding and was immediately greeted with the famous Namibia hospitality – a (very welcome) ice cold beer and a good old open fire braai.
The next morning we woke up very early, Kirsten had her hair and make up done by the stunning Michelle who is also one of their dear friends from high school. Side note – thank you Michelle for the Red Bull. ? We did some more driving and finally arrived at the huge sand dunes. We got amazingly stunning shots from the word go with beautiful, gigantic sand dunes and oryxes. We did a bit more driving and sliding on the sand, a bit of a hike (in scorching heat) and then there was Deadvlei. It was worth all the travelling!!!!!
After all that long travelling, I only had about 30 minutes to shoot in this unique location. The couple was amazing with only laughs and fun in the heat and logistical constraints of the location. After another drive, we arrive at their wedding location, Rostock Ritz. Their actual wedding took place in the afternoon on a sand dune overlooking a breath-takingly beautiful valley. The guests enjoyed the last rays of the last sunset of 2016 and a wonderful night of celebration followed under the African skies.
Thank you so much Phillip & Kirsten for choosing me as your wedding photographer. It was one of those weddings that I will remember for just everything!
